Mahé Wild West Grand Traverse Challenge
Le Niol + Port Launay + Coastal Road Link + Baie Ternay + Bel Ombre
One of Mahé's most demanding hiking challenges: a continuous west-coast traverse from the highland wilderness of the Morne Seychellois National Park, descending through rugged forest to Port Launay, an approximately 3.7 km mostly coastal road walk to Baie Ternay, then the remote final trail to Bel Ombre.

Terrain Conditions
Steep to very steep ascents and descents, river and marsh crossings, rugged rocky terrain, fallen trees, dense overgrown vegetation, exposed roots, ravines, dirt paths, sandy stretches, mud and slippery surfaces after rain. The route also includes an approximately 3.7 km public road walk with coastal exposure, vehicle traffic and limited shade in some sections.
Main Attractions
- A continuous highland-to-coast traverse across Mahé's wild western side
- Wetland, forest, rivers and endemic flora and fauna
- Historic ruins
- Coastal scenery
- Morne Seychellois National Park, mangroves and secluded beaches
- This is an extreme endurance experience combining two demanding point-to-point trails and an approximately 3.7 km public road walk under the sun. Guests must have excellent fitness, strong hiking endurance, confidence on steep and unstable terrain, and proper hiking footwear with reliable grip.
- Completion of the full route depends on weather, river levels, trail conditions, available daylight, guest pace and fitness, and the guide's safety assessment. Sudden rain can make river crossings, rocks and muddy sections dangerous. A strict early departure is required. If the start is delayed or progress is too slow, the route may be shortened, altered or stopped. The guide's safety decisions are final.
- For the All-Inclusive Package, transportation is provided from the accommodation to the trail starting point and from the finishing point back to the accommodation. The entire connected route, including the 3.7 km road section, is completed on foot. This is not a sightseeing or island driving tour.
- The road-link section is a public road used by vehicles. Guests must remain alert, walk as directed by the guide and follow all road safety instructions throughout this section.
- Due to its distance, duration and demanding terrain, this challenge is not suitable for children.
- For safety and time management, swimming in the ocean or at any beach along the route is not permitted during this experience. This is a continuous hiking challenge, not a swimming or beach tour. Swimming may delay the itinerary, reduce the daylight available to complete the route safely, cause the body to cool after exertion, and leave clothing or footwear wet, increasing discomfort, chafing and blister risk during the remaining hike. Guests may swim only after the tour has officially ended.
- All tour information, including duration, distance, elevation and difficulty, is approximate. Total tour duration covers the complete experience, from accommodation pickup to return for the All-Inclusive Package, or from arrival at the agreed meeting point until departure for the Guide Only Package. Timing may vary due to traffic, weather, trail conditions, guest pace, group size and stops.
- Every tour is private and reserved exclusively for you and your group, allowing for personal attention and a flexible pace.
- Hiking packages cover the hike and only the services listed under the selected package. Transfers are provided solely between the accommodation and trail location. Sightseeing stops, detours and extended waiting must be agreed in advance. Guests seeking a driving experience should book a dedicated island tour.
- Each hiker must carry a suitable personal backpack and is responsible for carrying their own food, water and personal belongings. The guide carries essential safety items and cannot carry personal items on behalf of guests.
- Children may participate with prior approval when the trail is suitable for their age, fitness and hiking ability. They must remain supervised by a parent or guardian throughout the experience.
